Speaking against the Holy Spirit – Matthew 12:32; Mark 3:29; Luke 12:10

Most of us at one time or another have wondered if we had ever blasphemed the Holy Spirit. In other words, we ask this question basically because we do not understand what the word blaspheme truly means. Well, today I hope to set the record straight in your hearts and minds about whether or not we are guilty of this crime.

  • Blaspheme [blas-pheme] = The first syllable of this word blas is defined with the same definition as blame which is to find fault, to hold responsible, sin. The second syllable of this word pheme has the same definition as speak which is to talk or utter a sound using the voice. Blasphemy of the Holy Spirit is the complete and total denial of the works of the Holy Spirit. This leads ultimately to rejecting the deity of CHRIST JESUS. Blasphemy of the Holy Spirit involves treating the Holy Spirit irreverently by denial of His power and works.

That should have cleared up whatever questions you may have had regarding whether or not you have ever blamed the Holy Spirit for what He is not guilty of or accrediting satan with the works of the Holy Spirit.

Here are the three scriptures from the Amplified and Message Bible that I hope will continue to provide clarity.

Matt. 12:32, whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit by attributing the works done by JESUS to satan will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come.

If you deliberately persist in your slanders against GOD’s Spirit, you are repudiating/cast away, discard, reject the very One who forgives. When you reject the Holy Spirit, you are sawing off the branch on which you are sitting severing/divide by violence, separate, disjoin your own perversity/turned aside, disposed to living wrong, stubborn, and all connection with the One who forgives.

Mrk. 3:29; whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit and His power never has forgiveness but is guilty of an everlasting sin, a sin which is unforgivable in this present age and in the age to come.

Lk. 12:10; intentionally discrediting the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, because there is no forgiveness.

If you are knowingly attacking GOD HIMself, taking aim at the Holy Spirit that will not be overlooked.
