Actually it’s not wrong to drink; what’s wrong is getting drunk and becoming a glutton towards addiction. People have problems with limits; it appears that people don’t know when to say no or enough. Most people may not get drunk from one glass of alcoholic drink and some do (I’m one). When a person is drunk their ability to make decisions are off. More times than not they make the wrong decisions and do foolish things. Once the addiction for alcohol takes over; the heart becomes enslaved to its desire. Every moment from the time a person awakens until they are passed out from the drink is filled with wanting to get more. Many people have lost their homes, family, jobs, integrity and such because of the addiction. When a person takes that very first drink and discovers that this is when I receive a buzz or realize that they are unbalanced this is the time to stop. You have reached your limit and to go on drinking is really ridiculous. Alcohol in the beginning numbs the pain and anger that a person maybe experiencing in life; it may also provide a false sense of confidence. But in the end alcohol will let you down; you will drink more to grow numb to your emotions and you will consume more to find that confidence that you think you need. The more you consume the more you loose of yourself. Have you ever seen alcoholics just burst out in tears? It seems to the person witnessing this that there is no reason for this; but what they are experiencing is the fact that they are drunks they have sold their soul to alcohol not understanding how it has taken such control of their life. They look back just for a glimpse remembering all of the promises that have been aborted and all they gave up for alcohol. In the Bible there are many references to wine some good and some bad. Wine was never intended to be used to cause people to get lost in it. Wine was used for cooking; for treating ailments and for celebrations; JESUS made wine at a wedding and the people who were drunk realized that the wine they were drinking was far better than what they had been drinking. Wine comes in various forms and can be made out of just about anything. The longer ingredients are allowed to rot, sour in other words ferment the more intoxicating to do damage to the internal organs and the brain. The wine JESUS made was not fermented but fresh and pure. Let me give some small examples of wine that we consume and not realize it because we are not consuming enough to get drunk or because it’s not fermented enough. Fruit juice, vinegar or vegetable juice. Of the three drinks we consume vinegar is the one that is fermented the longest but allow any of these liquids to sit for a long time and you will have alcohol. Let me address this because I know that it will be said; “JESUS drank wine.” No, JESUS is a Nazirite so HE was not to have strong drink.
The Law of the Nazirite, Numbers 6:1-4
Then the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, “Speak to the children of Israel, and say to them: ‘When either a man or woman consecrates an offering to take the vow of a Nazirite, to separate himself to the LORD, he shall separate himself from wine and similar drink; he shall drink neither vinegar made from wine nor vinegar made from similar drink; neither shall he drink any grape juice, nor eat fresh grapes or raisins. All the days of his separation he shall eat nothing that is produced by the grapevine, from seed to skin.
